Shopify is a commerce platform from Shopify Inc. for selling online and in stores. On its own, it provides your website, checkout, POS, inventory, purchase orders and customer accounts. Draft orders can serve as quotes, with lead times entered by hand. Products support up to 3 options and 2,048 variants, with prices per variant. Native draft-order deposits have Shopify Plus restrictions; POS partial payments are available with country limits. OrderPilot is an app inside Shopify that adds the made-to-order workflow.

The short answer
Which one fits the way you sell?
Choose OrderPilot if…
- You use Shopify, or want to run your website and showroom on Shopify.
- Made-to-order and special-order pieces are a regular part of your business.
- You want your customers to sign, pay and check their order from their own phone.
- You want OrderPilot billed per location through Shopify, with no per-user fees.
Shopify on its own may suit you better if…
- You mostly sell stocked pieces in fixed sizes, colors and finishes.
- Custom orders are occasional, and a draft invoice covers the sale.
- You buy stock for the store without needing POs linked to individual customer orders.
- Your customers pay online in full, and you sell pieces individually.
