Can customers request a different fabric after receiving their quote?

Selling made-to-order on ShopifyUpdated 2 Nov 2026

Short answer

Yes, customers can request a fabric change or ask a question through the OrderPilot portal, available from Growth.

Staff review the request and accept, offer an alternative or decline it.

The request does not change the order automatically. Open questions or changes can block signing until the team resolves them.

Where do I change the message after a customer requests a quote?

Edit Thank-you message under SettingsBrandingRequest sent page. Enter up to 300 characters, preview the wording and save. The message appears after the customer submits a quote request.

The portal's separate Footer message allows up to 500 characters and appears at the account-page bottom.

Why doesn't my order field show on the online quote request?

Online quote requests show only active order fields whose Location visibility is All locations. Open the field at SettingsQuotes & ordersOrder fields and check its visibility. If the field is archived, restore it before expecting customers to see it.

Should I track inventory for every fabric or finish option?

Track an option only when you buy and hold its values separately from the main product. A tracked value becomes its own Shopify line and purchase-order row.

Leave tracking off when Fabric or Leg finish only describes the piece the vendor makes. Dropdown, Swatch and Number support the documented tracking workflow; Dimensions cannot track stock.

Why does a new order pick a different address than POS?

A new order in the OrderPilot app uses the customer's Shipping and Billing address roles, while Shopify POS uses Shopify's default ship-to address. Those addresses can differ. Check the customer's address book and confirm the intended delivery destination before continuing, especially when a trade customer buys for several client sites.
