Why does my template product have new variants in Shopify?

In the appInventory and costsUpdated 2 Nov 2026

Short answer

Receiving a template configuration creates or reuses a Stock unit variant on the template's Shopify product.

The base variant is Made to order; stocked variants identify exact finished configurations.

Receiving creates that stock identity, not placing the customer order. The customer-order line keeps its configuration history as a custom item.

Does deactivating or deleting a template delete its Shopify product?

No. Deactivating a template archives its Shopify product, and deleting an unused template also archives the linked product. Existing orders, purchase orders and stock can still refer to its variant.

Stock or purchasing records can prevent template deletion; deactivate the template instead. Shared option products remain unchanged.

Can I edit a template's product directly in Shopify?

Change a template's managed product fields in OrderPilot, because the next sync can overwrite edits made directly in Shopify. Update the template's price, product type and option data in OrderPilot, then save. An active template queues another sync so its Shopify product receives the changes.

Why is my template's Shopify product type "Living room › Sofas"?

OrderPilot sends the category's full path to Shopify as the product type, so Sofas under Living room becomes Living room › Sofas. With several categories, OrderPilot uses one category path.

Default Category counts only when it is the sole category. Change the category in OrderPilot; a hand-edited Shopify product type is overwritten on sync.

Can I put frequently sold templates at the top of the product picker?

Yes. Open the template's row menu in Products and choose Pin to top. Pinned templates lead the app, POS and purchase-order pickers in pin order.

Choose Unpin to remove that priority. Pins do not change Shopify's product order and are not included in the template CSV.
