Inventory and costs
- Does receiving update Shopify right away?Shopify stock updates follow after the receipt is saved, so posting a receipt and updating inventory are separate steps.
- Why didn't my Shopify inventory change after receiving?Check the PO's stock-update message, the receiving location, and Shopify's Reserved quantity as well as Available.
- Why does my template product have new variants in Shopify?Receiving a template configuration creates or reuses a Stock unit variant on the template's Shopify product.
- Why does an order line say 'Not held: fewer than N in stock'?Not held: fewer than N in stock means the available quantity was too low when OrderPilot tried to reserve the customer's units.
- Why can't I switch an ordered-new line back to stock? An ordered-new line cannot switch back after its unit has arrived and is held for that customer order.
- Why doesn't Use stock unit appear?Use stock unit appears only on a saved made-to-order template line when matching stock at its location covers the entire quantity.
- Why is By weight greyed out when I add a charge?By weight is unavailable because purchase orders do not record unit weights.
- Do rejected units get a share of freight?Rejected units normally receive no share of a whole-PO charge; the units you keep carry the freight.
- I added freight after the goods arrived. Does the cost update?Yes. Adding or changing a whole-PO freight charge after goods arrive posts the received units' share as a late-charge adjustment, with its reason, in the receipt history; nothing is replaced silently.
- Why hasn't Shopify's Cost per item changed after receiving?Shopify cost publishing requires final costs and Keep Cost per item updated for stocked products to be on.
- Why does Shopify show the average cost in a FIFO shop?Shopify's Cost per item holds one figure, so OrderPilot publishes a weighted average across locations even when sales use FIFO or LIFO.
- Does changing the costing method restate past sales? No. A sale keeps the costing method and cost already assigned to it.
- Can customers or POS staff see my costs?Customers do not see internal costs on their PDFs, emails or portal pages, and Shopify POS never shows vendor costs.
- Can I use one of my existing locations for Order New?No. Only a location created through OrderPilot's Create made-to-order location action receives the free made-to-order role.
- Why can't I receive goods at the made-to-order location?A made-to-order location holds Order New commitments, so it cannot receive physical stock.
- Why is Order New greyed out?Order New needs a tracked Shopify product and an active made-to-order location distinct from the selling store.
- Does a quote reserve a finished stock unit? No. Quotes do not hold stock.
- Does returning a custom piece automatically put it back in stock? No. A return does not automatically put a custom piece back on its stocked variant.
- Should freight go on the PO or on a receipt?Use a PO charge when freight covers goods across the whole purchase order, and a receipt charge when it belongs to one delivery.
- Why are costs still estimated after all goods arrive?Receiving every unit does not make costs final if a relevant charge is still marked Estimated.
- Can I receive another delivery after finalizing a PO?No. Finalizing a PO closes its costs and stops receiving until it is reopened.
- Why did a new stock variant get a cost when publishing is off?A new stocked variant starts with its PO unit cost even when ongoing Shopify cost publishing is off.
- Will changing the planned PO cost fix an earlier receipt? No. Changing the planned cost of goods still to come leaves earlier receipts at their recorded costs.
- Can I charge duty to one option instead of the whole sofa?Yes. In Add charge, choose Specific items or options and select the option the charge covers.
